AT and Tiki

Last Thursday I had Niklas over in the studio for a little akvavit tasting. He works for OP Andersson and showed me 8 different kinds from their range. I brought Brown tonic syrup from Twinpigs that you mix with soda water because I was curious of Akvavit and tonic – AT :) It was really good! I’m thanks to Brown now a tonic fan!

After the tasting we went to see Magnus Sundström at Farang who had a little Maundy Thursday TIKI Special with the team from Balderdash in Copenhagen behind the bar!

LEMONAAAAD

60ml lemon juice
40ml sugar syrup
* Fill a pitcher with ice and top with soda water
* cucumber, basil and lemon wheels
* add white rum if wanted

Glad påsk!

Finally some påskmust (easter-must). I hade the same longing and drinking-joy at Christmas, actually a bit more then even. But nevertheless!! This is a must that’s made originally from a German recipe but was brought to Sweden 1910 by Harry Roberts who was a non-drinker and wanted to provide a different alternative to port and beer which wasn’t really successful until the prohibition poll in Sweden in 1922 after which all sales of alcoholic beverage was owned by the government.

The must is made from a syrup which they say only 3 people knows the ingredients too 😉 It’s sold to different soft drink companies who all get their own touch to the finished product that varieties for example due to the time it’s stored. My favourite is definitely Apotekarnes, the most popular one and simply the best one.

My sister and her boyfriend came to the workshop and busied themselves with sowing and setting up a new 3D-printer while I contented myself with making a dream catcher and stirring up a lemonade of lemon juice, suger syrup, basil, cucumber, lemon wedges, soda water and lots of ice! If one desired I had some white rum to round out the drink with :)

You’ll find the recipe above!

Happy Easter :)

Organic Smoothday – Spring

Onsdag. Smoothday.

Wednesday. Organic Smoothday. Now spring’s finally here and I found organic strawberries at Bio Company and fucking hell how good they were! That taste is so deeply connected to summer and warmth and I truly feel the butterflies of spring joy going crazy in me. Time to let loose my inner Ronia Robbersdaughter (Wolfsdaughter would suit me better tho since my dad’s name is Ulf meaning wolf in old Norse) 😀

Ok so I kick off this spring with a visit to Stockholm but before the trip I made a smoothie home at Holteistraße and here’s the ingredients:

Orange/blood orange/carrot/ginger-juice, fresh strawberries, banana, dried cranberry powder, a pinch of bourbon vanilla powder and of course lots of ice!

I say as usual: go with the flow! when it comes to how much of each ingredient you wanna use. It’s a smoothie you know, just mix it up as you feel like. Taste and adjust :)

I’ve found a new home btw! Will be moving in mid April. There I have neither a blender nor a juicer and I have some other economic priorities that purchasing kitchen tools at the moment, so soon I’ll pause the weekly smoothie for some time. Don’t know for how long, we’ll see :)

Anyway, happy spring yawl! 😀

Organic Smoothday – Gold

Hellooooo

Yesterday was Organic Smoothday. I made one that didn’t turn out nice neither in flavour nor in picture. And I couldn’t be bothered to make one today because it’s fucking finally spring and I wanted to drink my morning coffee out in the sunshine 😀 So I went down to the court yard and worked a little on a new little project, with coffee and a breakfast mäckish.

Our/Berlin Vodka – a visit to the distillery

”It’s like a family thing, Our thing”

A couple of weeks ago I visited Our/Berlin Vodka distillery in Treptow to meet Fabian Dieker and get a glimpse of their business and vodka production. He thinks the best thing about the company is the over all vibe of the brand. It’s urban and open minded. ”Like a family thing, Our thing” 😉

Our Vodka by our Berlin is the first micro distillery in a series based on local vodka production featuring different cities around the world. Fabian explained that the basic recipe is the same and what changes is the raw goods used depending on what each city/country has to offer.

It’s a basically like a ’black operation’ business under the umbrella of Pernod Richard (who also owns Absolut Vodka since 2008) and the people behind it are six kinda fashion interested entrepreneurs from Stockholm who got the idea in 2011 and put it into action with Berlin as the starting point.

Check out ourvodka.com for more information about the business and their story.

1As far as the production goes, this is the basic overview:

✴︎ Our Vodka gets the wheat based ethanol at 98% from Münster in West Germany where the best wheat in the country grows. They dilute it down to 65% and store it in the two stainless steal 3000 litres tanks.

✴︎ The alcohols is transfered into the copper destillation apparatus where they then put:

❥ Ethanol – from Münster
❥ Water – filtered and demineralised at the distillery
❥ Aromatic fractions – produced by a special yeast culture, selected and patented for Our/Berlin

✴︎ The aromatic fractions is imported from Åhus Sweden where the production of Absolut Vodka is located. It’s what gives the slightly fruity note to the final product.

✴︎ In the copper apparatus the alcohol is continuously cycled up and down, and heated with steam, until the vapors are released and condensed and transfered through the pipes into three smaller tanks. This process is regulated manually so that first the ”head” is released and end up in the left tank followed by the ”body” that’s the good part and it’s stored in the slightly bigger tank in the middle, and at last the ”tail” is released and goes in the third tank on the right.

✴︎ Now the good has been separated from the bad. However the final touch needs to be made and that happens in a blender where alcohol content (37.5%) and taste is regulated to perfection.

✴︎ The final step is bottling the products and that is also made in the distillery, in the Swedish designed 350ml glass bottles that’s so characteristically for Our Vodka.

2 3 4 DSC_0949 DSC_0957DSC_0951

Well to an extent one could compare this production with an alchemical process. Instead of transforming lead into gold, water is transformed to vodka. In alchemy the tree basic elements; wind, water and fire, plays an important roll. As well here, translated to wind-fementation, water-dilution and fire-destillation. Although alchemy as an esoteric art holds altogether different depths/forces with dimensions that are highly metaphysical and kinda spiritual, and derives from ancient teachings and philosophical reflections, alcohol production, or spirit creation if you like, has been used all over the world for at least 10000 years B.C. (where the first intentionally fermentation process been discovered) for humans to enter another realm of consciousness and inevitably extas, if used with responsibility and awareness, u know what I mean 😉

Oh and by the way, Fabian told me if you drink only Our Vodka a whole night without mixing it with other spirits, you don’t get a hang over! ”Challenge accepted” ! I’ll let u know the result later on.

Anyway, I’m generally fascinated and interested in the distilling process of all alcohol production. One day I wanna have my own distillery – then I’ll make good old ”fire water” or brännvin (burnt wine) as we say in Swedish, that I could infuse with different flowers and herbs and what have you :)

Release party for Adidas Gazelle

Perfekt! 😀

Himalaya Mule:
40ml Our/Berlin Vodka – Himalaya
10ml Lime juice
✴︎ highball glas, cube ice
✴︎ top up with ginger beer
✴︎ dash orange bitter
✴︎ 1 spray orange blossom water
✴︎ garnish with orange twist

Super fresh!

Cucumber cooler:
40ml Our/Berlin Vodka
10ml Lime juice
✴︎ highball glas, cube ice
✴︎ top up with Cucumis
✴︎ orange bitter
✴︎ garnish with orange twist

Älskar mina nya skor btw :)

On Thursday last week I was invited to do the bar for Zalandos’ release party for the new Adidas Gazelle spring edition in pastell colours that was released the following day. The party was for 20 fashion bloggers so a bartender who also has a blog was just right for the occasion 😉
I represented Our Vodka by Our Berlin and offered a really tasty long drink made from their Himalaya vanilla tea infused vodka, fresh limejuice, ginger beer, orange bitter, a spray of orange blossom water (mostly for the smell), and orange twist for garnish. Thanks to the male blogger at the party who asked what the drink was called, and when I said he could decide he came up with Himalaya Mule. Perfect!

For those who didn’t want ginger beer I made a drink on pure Our/Berlin Vodka, fresh lime juice and Cucumbis – a cucumber lemonade from Hamburg with a touch of basil. Super fresh!

You’ll fin the recipes above the pictures!

Love my new shoes btw :)

Organic Smoothday – Cocochoconana

Mmmmm 😉
